Get Around London

How to get around London

How to get around London is one of the biggest problems when someone visits the city. Underground, overground, buses, cabs and more are useful transport to get around. The transport can be very expensive for someone who doesn’t know the city. Here some of my favorite London Transport and some tips to save money.

UNDERGROUND

Underground is the fastest way to get around London. On Friday and Saturday night, some of the lines are 24 hours. However, underground close sooner than usual on Sundays. You can check the line service in Transport for London. Oyster card is the best way to travel on the underground. You can buy this card in every underground station for 5 pounds.

LONDON BUSES

Buses are a good London transport and most of them are overnight. The single journey costs 1.50 pounds. However, if you did the weekly subscription you don’t pay. Buses, like overground, are crowded around rush time. Therefore, I suggest you to not use public transport around this time. Plan your day thinking about rush timing so you won’t waste time traveling around.

TAXIS/CABS

Taxis (cabs) are widespread but more expensive than other transport. You can call them on the street paying at the end of the journey. However you can call a cab using Uber, Kapten or Bolt application. In this way the journey will cost you less for sure. It’s really simple to use them and it’s a good saving if you are traveling with other people. For calling a cab you need to put your card detail and it’s gonna take your money through the phone.

CYCLES AND ZIPCAR

Hire bikes in London with Santander Cycles is a good idea. Especially if it’s a sunny day outside. It’s not so expensive and you can drive around London with your friends. Just remember that you need to drive in an oppositive way in London. Zipcar is a good alternative to car hire. Many people use this application to drive outside London for a one day trip. To use Zipcar you need a clear selfie holding a valid driver’s license and either valid debit or credit card.

USEFUL TIPS TO GET AROUND LONDON

The London center is not as big as you think. Many attractions are close to each other. Save some money walking instead of taking the underground. Avoid rush time both on buses and underground transport. If you decide to not do the weekly oyster card, remember than in rush time you pay more for the underground. CityMapper is the best application to get around. I’ve been lived in London for years so if you have any questions leave a comment below!!
